Tracking Setup: Shopify

If your online store is powered by Shopify, you can use Sona's Shopify Integration to automatically set up your account and track web activity on your store.

This article will provide step by step guidance on how to setup your Sona Advanced Attribution account for a Shopify store.

To connect to your Shopify store, please complete the following steps:

On the "Activity Tracking" page, click on the pink "Edit Settings" button in the top right corner.

  1. In the "Tracking Settings" pop up that appears, select the following:
    1. Ensure that the "Tracking Enabled" radio button is green. If "Tracking Enabled" is greyed out, please slide the right end of that button to "turn on" tracking for identifying people.
    2. User Identifier - Select the "Email Address" card
    3. Implementation Method - Select the "Shopify" option
    4. Click on the purple "Apply" button to save your changes. Visitor-based tracking should now be configured.
  2. Back on the "Activity Tracking" main page, click on the "Basic Setup" button on the top left corner. This card should be highlighted pink when selected.
  3. In the yellow horizontal panel you will see instructions to do the following:
    1. Copy the code below to the <head> section of every page you want to track.
  4. Below the tracking code textbox, click on the purple "Copy to Clipboard" button.
  5. Now go back into your Shopify account to paste the tracking code on your Shopify pages:
    1. On the left sidebar, click on "Online Store" and select "Themes" if it's not automatically selected

    4. A new tab will open. In this new tab, click on "{/} theme.liquid" under the "Layout" section
    5. You will then see a new section appear in the bottom right corner with the tracking code. Insert the code between the “<head></head>” tags. Click the "Save" button to save your changes.
  6. Now go back into your Shopify admin dashboard as you will also need to apply the tracking code to the Checkout page.
    1. On the left sidebar, click "Settings" at the bottom left.

    4. Copy and paste the tracking code at the top of the "Additional scripts" box.
    5. After pasting the code, scroll up on the page to the "Customer contact" section. Under "To check out", click on "Customers can only check out with email."
